Ada & the Volta estuary
Where the Volta meets the sea
Two slow days at the river mouth
At Ada the Volta reaches the Atlantic through a maze of islands, sandbars and creeks. It is a place of boats: ferries between islands, fishing canoes, and the river lodges that can only be reached by water.
We send people here at the end of a trip, to do very little: a boat through the creeks, a walk on the bar where river meets sea, and an early night. (to verify)
Why go
It is the closest real rest to Accra. After the castles or a long road trip north, two nights at Ada let a journey end slowly rather than at an airport.
